Panel & Pleated Filters

Panel and pleated filters are what most air handling systems are actually built from: a flat panel for the first coarse stage, a pleated panel with more media area for medium efficiency, a V-bank where the depth allows a large media area, and a high-temperature panel where the airstream comes off an oven.

Whalesens supplies them from G2 to G4 for the pre-filter stages, F5 to F8 in the pleated and V-bank medium range, and high-temperature panels rated for oven and curing duty. Frames come in aluminium, galvanised steel and stainless steel, in depths from 15 mm to 292 mm.

Selection table

Model Filtration grade Media Frame depth Initial resistance Final resistance Rated airflow
High Temperature Fiberglass Panel Filter G2, G3, G4 (EN779); EU2, EU3, EU4 Fiberglass 45 Pa (15 / 21 mm), 60 Pa (96 mm) 250 Pa
Medium Efficiency Pleated Panel Filter F5, F6, F7, F8 (EN779) High-strength PET filter paper 46 mm ≤90 Pa (F5) – ≤140 Pa (F8) ≤360 Pa (F5) – ≤560 Pa (F8) 1,200 – 3,600 m³/h

V-Bank Medium Efficiency Filter M6, F7, F8, F9, H10, H11, H12, H13, H14 Fiberglass or polypropylene, mini-pleated 292 mm 70 Pa (M6) to 200 Pa (H14) 150 Pa (M6) to 420 Pa (H14) 750 – 3,200 m³/h

How it compares

Pleated panel vs bag filter

A pleated panel is the compact answer: more media area than a flat panel in a shallow frame, cheap and easy to handle. A bag filter puts several square metres into the same face size, so it runs at a lower face velocity and lasts longer, but it needs the depth to hang the pockets.

Panel vs V-bank

A panel filter is a flat face of media; a V-bank folds the media into a zig-zag inside a 292 mm frame and can carry many times the media area. The V-bank costs more and takes more depth, so it is used where a high-efficiency stage has to fit into the same duct as the filter it replaces.

Standard vs high-temperature construction

Temperature is limited by the binder in the media, the separator and the adhesive that seals the pack into the frame. A high-temperature panel replaces those with materials that survive the duty, which is why the same filter body is quoted at a much lower temperature in its standard build.

FAQ

What is a pleated panel filter?
A pleated panel filter is media folded into a shallow frame so a larger area fits into the same face opening. The extra area lowers the face velocity and the pressure drop, and it lets the filter hold more dust than a flat panel of the same size.
Panel or V-bank: which should I choose?
Choose the panel where depth is limited and the grade is coarse to medium, and the V-bank where you have about 292 mm of depth and need a high-efficiency stage with enough media area to keep the resistance down. The V-bank exists because a high-efficiency panel in the same duct would be too resistive.
What grades are available?
G2, G3 and G4 for pre-filtration; F5 to F8 in the pleated and V-bank medium range; and up to H13 and H14 in the V-bank where a final stage is needed. The grade should follow the stage behind the filter, not the other way round.
Can pleated filters be washed?
No for paper and glass fibre media — washing damages the fibre structure and the efficiency does not recover. If a washable filter is wanted, the washable plank and metal mesh range is the right choice instead.
What frame materials are available?
Aluminium, galvanised steel and stainless steel are standard, with cardboard available on some of the thinner panels. Galvanised steel is the default; stainless is used where the airstream is corrosive or the filter will be cleaned.
What depths are available?
From 15 mm and 21 mm for the thin high-temperature panels, through 46 mm and 96 mm for the standard pleated panels, up to 292 mm for the V-bank. The depth has to match the holding frame, so confirm the frame before ordering.
How many filter stages does my system need?
Two is the minimum for a commercial system — a coarse pre-filter and a medium main filter — and three where a fine or HEPA stage follows. The stages exist to protect each other, so adding a stage is often cheaper than shortening the life of the one behind it.
What are the final resistance and change points?
Each product page quotes an initial and a final resistance for the grade. Replace at the final value or when the airflow can no longer be held, and set the gauge alarm at commissioning so the change point is a measurement rather than an estimate.
