Metal Mesh Filters

Not every filter should be thrown away. The washable plank filter and the metal plank mesh filter are built so that the frame, the support structure and the protective mesh stay in service while only the media pad is replaced — or washed and refitted.

Both are used where the dust load is coarse and predictable: paint booth intake, workshop ventilation, marine and coastal installations. The metal construction holds its shape through handling and cleaning, which is what a cardboard or paper frame cannot do.

Selection table

Model Filtration grade Media Depths Initial resistance Final resistance Rated airflow
Metal Plank Air Filter Mesh Filter G3, G4 (EN779) Polyester fibre filtration pad 10, 15, 21, 46, 50 mm 800 – 3,200 m³/h
Washable Plank Air Filter G3, G4 (EN779); MERV5 – MERV8 Polyester synthetic fibre, detachable 46, 96 mm 30 – 50 Pa 200 – 250 Pa 3,400 m³/h

How it compares

Washable metal frame vs disposable panel

A disposable panel is cheaper per unit and more consistent filter to filter. A metal frame costs more once, then carries many media changes; it wins wherever the filter is cleaned on a maintenance round and the frame can be refitted correctly.

Metal plank vs cardboard frame

A cardboard frame deforms as soon as it is handled wet, so it cannot be cleaned and reused. The plank frame keeps its face flat, which matters for a filter that has to seal against a holding frame after being washed several times.

Mesh vs plank construction

The plank construction supports a media pad between a frame and a protective mesh and carries the higher dust load. The pure mesh filter is a coarse screen for larger debris and for protecting the stage behind it, with a lower resistance and a longer cleaning interval.

Where it is used

Paint booth intake

Coarse intake filtration ahead of the ceiling media, catching the heavy fraction and extending the ceiling filter interval.

FAQ

Are these filters really washable?
The media pad, the frame and the protective mesh are all designed to be cleaned and reused — wash or vacuum the pad, clean the mesh, and refit. The foam and synthetic pads recover well; if a pad has been torn or has lost its shape, replace the pad rather than the frame.
How do I clean them?
Take the pad out of the frame, vacuum or wash it, rinse the mesh, and let everything dry before refitting. Refit the pad the same way round it came out, and check that it sits flat against the mesh, because a pad that is not seated lets air bypass the media.
What frame materials are available?
Painted steel, galvanised steel and stainless steel plank frames, with aluminium, galvanised steel and stainless steel outer frames. Stainless is the choice for coastal, marine and food environments.
Can I buy only the media pad?
Yes, the pad is a replaceable part and can be ordered on its own once the frame is in service. That is the point of the construction: the frame and mesh have a long life and the pad is the consumable.
What grades are available?
G3 and G4 in EN 779 for the plank and mesh range, with MERV equivalents quoted where the product data includes them. For finer filtration a pleated or bag filter should follow as the next stage.
Which depth should I choose?
The depth has to match the holding frame. The metal mesh range covers 10 to 50 mm and the washable plank range 46 and 96 mm; if your frame is a non-standard depth, send the drawing and we will make it to size.
Do I need a holding frame?
Most installations have one, and the filter is made to fit it. Where no frame exists, the plank construction can be supplied with its own outer frame so it seats directly in the duct opening.
How often should the pad be cleaned?
Watch the pressure drop rather than the calendar. Clean it when the resistance rises noticeably above the clean value, and replace the pad when cleaning no longer brings the resistance back or the pad has lost its structure.
