Activated carbon panel filters combine particulate filtration with carbon adsorption, removing odors and gases from HVAC and industrial air.

An activated carbon panel filter combines mechanical particulate filtration with activated carbon adsorption in a single flat frame. The media works as a panel filter for airborne particles, and the carbon carried in it adsorbs odors and low-concentration gases such as formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia. Because the panel is flat, it fits the filter tracks and holding frames already installed in an air handling unit, including positions where there is not enough depth for a bag or deep-pleat filter, which is why it is commonly used as the gas-phase stage in commercial and industrial ventilation.

The carbon sits in the media itself, with protective mesh on the faces to hold it in place; a detachable version lets the frame and mesh be reused while only the media is replaced. The slim profile is the trade-off, because a panel carries a limited amount of carbon, so it suits low-concentration gas loads and shorter intervals between changes. Saturation does not show up on the pressure gauge, since a spent carbon stage still passes air at low resistance; replacement is triggered by odor breakthrough or by the interval the application calls for.
